The Journey Home

By Lorraine Nicholson

Review

Absolutely stunning book containing poetry, nuggets of searing insights, art work and photography by the author Lorraine Nicholson. Structured as a journey through the black depths of depression through to finding hope and moving forwards into recovery, Nicholson's words and images make every single page of this text engaging and lively, poignant and moving. "Into ashes I would rather go / In the hope of resurrection, rebirth, / The proverbial Phoenix rising' (Elemental Deliverance) strikes me as a particularly apt description of the turning point in depression, and 'Flight Fantastic' is one poem that I'll be using with my nursing students to explore notions of recovery in depression - 'Emerging from the darkened caverns of the mind

To embrace a light so directional and bright.

A Chrysalis once, a butterfly now,

Wings unfolded, taking flight.'

A very special book and remarkably affortable given its range of visual and literary jewels.
